Company presidents, pop stars, samurai, and even chefs regularly show up as possible romantic prizes.
But the upcoming 90 Days of Love with You, or You-Koi, to use its abbreviated Japanese title, is shining the spotlight on a heretofore uncelebrated line of work for a dating sim: You Tube video personalities.
(See for example, the difference between the series, which is very close to a Visual Novel style of gameplay, and the DOA Xtreme series, which is the closest thing to a true Dating Sim with mass-market appeal in the US.) If the game plays out like a Choose Your Own Adventure, that's a Visual Novel.
Some Sim Date games have been made into Harem anime, though the result is usually nothing special due to the removal of sex and the fact that the narrative can no longer focus on any single character.
Artwork currently consists solely of snapshots from anime series, since my drawing is even worse than my writing.
Spoilers (mouseover to read): Yup, there's only one ending.
And while You Tuber may not have the same high-flying cachet as more orthodox dating simulator character professions, as the online entertainment industry grows, making Internet videos is being seen as an increasingly attractive field to work in.
As an additional surprise, the game features anime-style representations of actual human You Tubers Hajime Shacho, Avantees, Pocky, and the Charisma Brothers who have built up sizeable fanbases for their comedy and video game streaming videos.
But if you’ve ever played dating sims before, you’ll know that they can be a huge amount of fun.
